Full analysis of fan coils: practical guide from classification to troubleshooting

Fan coil, full name is fan coil unit, is a commonly used terminal device in air conditioning systems. It consists mainly of small fans, motors and coils (air heat exchangers). Refrigerant, or frozen water/hot water, is circulated in the coil, and heat exchanges with the air outside the pipe through the pipe wall to achieve cooling, dehumidification or heating of the air, thereby adjusting the indoor temperature and humidity and ensuring the comfort of the indoor environment.

Fan coils in various categories

 

1. Structural form classification:
Vertical: divided into columnar and low-level, suitable for occasions with abundant space, such as halls, conference rooms, etc.

Horizontal: It includes ultra-thin and ordinary types, suitable for spaces with higher ceilings, and is often installed above the ceiling or in the computer room.

Wall-mounted type: Hang directly on the wall, saving floor space, suitable for homes, offices, etc.

Cylinder (also known as recessed or ceiling recessed): Installed in the ceiling, only exposing the air outlet and return air outlet, it is beautiful and hidden, and is commonly found in commercial and high-end residential areas.


2. Installation method classification:
Surface installation: It is directly installed in a conspicuous position indoors, without additional decoration covering, and is suitable for decorated rooms or temporary use scenarios.

Concealed installation: hidden in the ceiling, wall or special computer room, it needs to be decorated with the decoration, making the appearance more neat and beautiful.

3. Outer static pressure classification:
According to the static pressure generated by the fan, it can be divided into 0Pa, 12Pa, 30Pa, 50Pa, 80Pa, etc. Different static pressures are suitable for different air supply distances and resistance requirements.


4. Number of pipe discharges:
Two rows of pipes: basic configuration, suitable for general cooling and heating needs.

Three-row pipe: Provides a larger heat exchange area, suitable for occasions where higher heat exchange efficiency is required.


5. Regulatory method classification:
Two controls: cooling in summer and heating in winter, are the most common configurations, and the indoor temperature is changed by switching hot and cold water sources.

Four controls: It can provide hot and cold water at the same time, and is independently controlled, suitable for places with high requirements for temperature control accuracy, such as high-end hotels, hospital operating rooms, etc.


6. Other feature classification:
According to whether there is a condensate pump: Some cassette fan coils will be distinguished based on whether there is a water pump that automatically discharges condensate water.

By body thickness: Horizontal fan coils have ultra-thin designs to accommodate more compact spaces depending on the thickness of the body design.
